I was reminded of this comic scene in Thelma and Louise (Ridley Scott, 1991)  by Joanne Hollows. It is an emphatically clear example of the counter-cultural symbolism of the bicycle in the context of mainstream US film culture.

A UK newsreel clip from 1928, showing a track race featuring ‘Ordinary’ bicycles or ‘Penny farthings’, which gives a sense of just how fast and precarious these machines were.

A new short clip featuring cyclist film-maker, Lucas Brunelle, and video producer, Casey Neistadt, racing though NYC.
